London Low Emission Zone

From 3rd January 2012 the London Low Emission Zone or LEZ will seek to penalise all commercial vehicles that do not have at least a Euro 3 compliant engine.

Euro 3 came into force for all vehicles registered after 1st January 2002 and this increase in standards will affect approximately 72,000 vans and minibuses currently using the London Low Emission Zone.

There will be a daily charge of £100 for all polluting vans as well as a £500 non-compliance fine if they enter the London Low Emission Zone.

This measure will act as a catalyst for many van drivers to upgrade their vans to carry on their trade in London. Those looking to change should consider the longer view and expect Euro 3 vans to be penalised in the next couple of years.

Some manufacturers have announced a special discount scheme applicable to qualifying vehicles to further encourage change however drivers should consider such schemes against consistently cheap prices from Cheaper Van Sales.
