Ford Transit 

A quarter of all vans on the road in the UK are Ford Transits - such is the popularity of the model.

The latest Transit has a striking exterior design, along with a completely new and modern interior and features plenty of thoughtful touches. The Transit is available off-the-shelf in a huge variety of configurations to suit the needs of most, from 2.6 to 4.3 tonnes.

Ford has given the fourth-generation Transit a much improved interior.

The Transit is easy to drive, with good driver visibility, light controls and a gear lever mounted on the dash, close to the wheel. A four-wheel drive Transit is also available.

Ford Transit Short Wheel Base (SWB)

The Transit SWB has a load length of 2582mm. The SWB Transit affords a cubic capacity between 5.19 and 6.81 depending on the roof height and is available on the 2.6t, 2.8t, 3.0t & 3.3t models. The overall vehicle length is 4863mm whilst the rear entry height is 1370mm. The side load entry is 1030mm wide and 1352mm high. Load floor to roof is 1430mm.

The rear wheel drive (RWD) Transit SWB is only available at a vehicle mass weight of 3.3t and has a reduced rear entry of 1270mm and floor to roof height of 1252mm due to the rear axle drive mechanism.

The Transit SWB Medium Roof adds another 315mm of floor to roof height.

Ford Transit Medium Wheel Base (MWB)

The Transit MWB has a load length of 2949mm. The MWB Transit affords a cubic capacity between 6.45 and 8.85 depending on the roof height and is available on the 2.8t, 3.0t, 3.3t & 3.5t models. The overall vehicle length is 5230mm whilst the rear entry height is 1370mm. The side load entry is 1030mm wide and 1352mm high. Load floor to roof is 1430mm.

The rear wheel drive (RWD) Transit MWB is available at a vehicle mass weight of 3.0t, 3.3t & 3.5t.

The Transit MWB Medium Roof adds another 315mm of floor to roof height.

The Transit MWB High Roof adds another 555mm of floor to roof height.

Ford Transit Long Wheel Base (LWB)

The Transit LWB has a load length of 3399mm. The LWB Transit affords a cubic capacity between 8.45 and 10.2 depending on the roof height and is available on the 3.0t, 3.3t & 3.5t models. The overall vehicle length is 5680mm whilst the rear entry height is 1666mm. The side load entry is 1250mm wide and 1600mm high. Load floor to roof is 1745mm.

The rear wheel drive (RWD) Transit LWB is available at a vehicle mass weight of 3.0t, 3.3t & 3.5t.

The Transit LWB High Roof adds another 245mm of floor to roof height.

Ford Transit Extra Long Wheel Base (XLWB or EL)

The Transit ‘Jumbo’ has a load length of 4107mm. The EL Transit affords a cubic capacity 14.3. The overall vehicle length is 6403mm whilst the rear entry height is 1796mm. The side load entry is 1540mm wide and 1500mm high. Load floor to roof is 1885mm.

Engines

The diesel Ford Transit has 5 different engine power outputs. The front wheel drive (FWD) Transits offer 85ps, 110ps or 140ps from a 2.2 litre Duratorq engine whilst the rear wheel drive offers 100ps, 110ps & 140ps from a 2.4 litre unit. The 3.2 litre 200ps ‘beast’ is available with the 3.5t van.

A petrol version Transit is available with a 2.3 litre 145ps engine.
